Seasoned business pro Ben Bartlett embraces Drake P3 Ben Bartlett has devoted his career to building and running his own businesses. Now he is going to help other business owners and leaders. His tool of choice is the Drake P3.The Drake P3 is an assessment tool that helps organizations with hiring, team building and other aspects of talent management. Ben remembers being exposed to assessment tools as a kid. That is when his father, consultant Leo Bartlett, came home with a profiling tool on a 5¼” floppy disk. It would take several decades before he came around to joining his father’s business utilizing the power of assessment tools.Knowing how to run a business Many people get their start in assessment tools via an education in industrial-organizational psychology. Ben comes at it not as a psychologist but as a businessman who understands the importance of talent management. He was lucky that his first job was a good fit for his personality. At 18 he was hired as a sales representative at a local big box store and within a month was their top salesman. A good fit led to good results.Later when he ran his own mobile electronics business he again noticed the importance of matching personality traits to the job. He had to keep one installer far away from customers, while another installer could actually convince customers to upgrade their systems. Their technical skills were comparable, but personality mattered more. His Dad Leo showed how the P3 profiling system could quickly identify the best installers. This evidence convinced Ben good hiring need not be a matter of chance.Putting P3 to work By joining his father’s consulting business Ben gets access to deep know-how on using the Drake P3. His own insight into what it is like to run a business makes him an excellent consultant for managers who worry about turnover, below par performance, or simply the amount of time it takes to hire good people. And for family businesses, with Ben understands well, a tool like the P3 can bring some welcome objectivity to succession management. What you didn’t know about Ben Bartlett Ben’s work in high-end audio equipment gave him the opportunity to do many unique projects for sports stars and other celebrities. It also links nicely to his hobby of collecting interesting cars since a good car needs good audio. These days however, with three kids, he doesn’t have a lot of spare time for hobbies. He does love doing anything outdoors. | |||
